I'm happy in that for the money (a little under £500) they could've done much much worse. On the other hand though, I know they've bought this with only minor inspection and I haven't seen it yet. I hope it's not hiding any horrors, the fresh MOT means hopefully there isn't anything too serious.

I know that
1) You and Kirky live on opposites of England
2) That isn't your car
But
I would love an Oppo comparison review of some sought between the Saxo and the 106.

I'll be driving it when I next visit the family in a week or two so I can give some thoughts. All I got out of my parents is that the driving position is rubbish and it's otherwise not bad.
It'll be a weak comparison though, since Kirky's car seems really well cared for, and the Saxo has probably lived a hard life.

Might your father be willing to consider a career move from whatever he presently does into the incredibly lucrative field of rally driving?

Eh, mine gets decent care, but I do tend to slack a bit whenever I'm busy with uni/work. It could seriously do with a clean at the mo.

Given the speed he drives I don't think he'd be a very fun rally driver to watch. Unless you like to see a rally driver that never exceeds 60mph.

Well, if he never deviated from 60mph in either direction, no matter the corner or road surface, I imagine it'd make for some interesting viewing.

I've cleaned my car once since I bought it. I think that was back in November...

Na corners = down to 20mph.

Ah yes, the "I'm already doing well below the speed limit, but I'm going to brake for this corner anyway." school of driving.

Indeed, we always mock him for it. He's of the "better safe than sorry" mindset.

My mum feels similarly; I don't think she's ever used more than about the first third of her accelerator's travel. She's visiting at the moment, and as part of her ongoing efforts to convince me that I ought to get a MINI as my next car, she's planning to put me on her insurance for a week or so, so I can try it out.
With the life it's lead, I imagine that poor MINI's going to get quite the shock.

If I only used the first third of my accelerator I'd take forever to get anywhere. Not bad getting a week to tool around in a new car, I'm not a fan of Minis myself though. A friend has one and a 60k miles it already has multiple electrical faults, it's on it's second clutch and already has a sizable oil leak.

Same for me. I don't exactly need to go foot-to-the-floor for everything, but it certainly helps... And is a lot of fun, besides.
Yeah, I've never been keen on the BMW ones, to be honest. They seem to break almost as often as the originals, cost a lot more to fix, and have - for me, anyway - none of the charm.
Still, I'm keen to give it a go. It'll be the second most powerful petrol car I've ever driven.

Yeah it's worth a drive. I think it's a case of it being a decent car to drive, but not something you'd really want to own long term.
